12 January 2017   Comments Off on Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell Open Up About Reuniting for ‘Prison Break’ Revival

The Prison Break revival doesn’t debut until April, but ET has details on the project after catching up with stars Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell at the 2017 Winter Television Critics Association Press Tour on Wednesday.

“It’s more of the same, but we’re a lot older,” Miller joked with ET’s Leanne Aguilera at the event in Pasadena, California. “That’s the twist.”

Fox is bringing back the popular series for a new nine-episode season with Miller and Purcell reprising their roles as Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows for the latest chapter in the brothers’ saga.

“We are like brothers at this point,” Miller said. “When I see him, there’s a level of comfort and familiarity that is like when I get together with family. I know that he has my back and I have his, and we get each other’s rhythm and style. We have a shorthand on set, so there’s a layer of comfort when I work with Dom.”

While Miller is confident that newcomers will enjoy the show, he noted that there are Easter eggs that will enable fans of the original series to enjoy it on a deeper level.

“They might have to do a little bit of homework,” Miller said of new fans.

Purcell revealed that he and Miller actually played a part in bringing the show back, but when their efforts were successful, the initial excitement was followed by a sense of duty.

“Prison Break is a huge part of my life and Wentworth and I are great friends and it was just the chance to revisit the show,” he said. “But when we came back, there was a responsibility that came with that to uphold the success.”

When they did get back on set, it didn’t take long for them to slip back into character.

“I was most looking forward to the reunion with the other actors,” Miller explained. “It’s a bit like a high school reunion where you know them but time has passed. They’re a little bit different; you’re a little bit different, and that actually feeds into the narrative of these nine episodes.”

In May, the reunion turned sour when Purcell suffered a gruesome injury on set. An iron bar dislodged and fell on his head, requiring more than 100 stitches, and leaving his nose broken in multiple places. While he’s doing OK now, Purcell told us that when the injury occurred, he felt like he “let the team down.”

“It happened in Morocco and I was flown to Casablanca for emergency surgery,” he recalled. “I had a week and a half off. They wanted me to take more time, and I said no. I wanted to get back to work.”

While fans are itching to see Miller and Purcell back in their old roles, the actors have shared the screen since the show’s finale in 2009. The recently worked together on CW’s The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow.

Purcell described the difference in preparing for a superhero show like Legends versus Prison Break.

“There wasn’t any particular bit of training that went into it,” he admitted. “It was much more about remembering how Lincoln functioned and what his running condition was. That didn’t take long at all. The first day on set it was just back to being Lincoln again.”

Prison Break premieres Tuesday, April 4 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Fox.
