Fox has officially ordered the Prison Break event series, the network announced at the Television Critics Association’s press tour on Friday.

Original stars Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell are set to return as brothers Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows — despite the fact that Michael seemingly died in the television movie Prison Break: The Final Break.

The original producing team of Paul T. Scheuring, Neal Moritz, Marty Adelstein and Dawn Olmstead will executive-produce the event series, with Scheuring set as showrunner and writer.

“We all who watched the show and loved it thought that Michael had died,” Fox co-chairman and CEO Gary Newman said. “Paul Scheuring came in with a great twist that explains that he didn’t die, and what he’s been doing in the interim.” However, it’s unclear whether Michael still has the brain tumor that plagued him in the series. “The script that I read, it wasn’t addressed, so I don’t know whether that’s been somehow taken care of or not.”

Other details on the project are somewhat scarce, though it appears the series will take on a grander scale. “The story unravels on an international landscape, it’s not a domestic show,” co-chairman and CEO Dana Walden revealed. “I’m hoping we’ll see many of the great characters from that season return throughout the season. It has all the twists and turns you’ve come to expect from that show. We open on a very international contemporary feeling story.”

“We’re going to be shooting in April for a few months, and it’ll be broadcast during the 2016–17 season, but we haven’t made any decisions about whether that’s fall or midseason,” Newman added. “It’s somewhere in the range of 8–10 [episodes], that will be a function of our production schedule, because they’re both working on another series. We’re working with Warner Bros. to clear out enough time to get done what we want to get done.”

Miller and Purcell currently star alongside each other in The CW’s upcoming time-traveling superhero series DC’s Legends of Tomorrow.
