The CW announced its first midseason scheduling moves Monday, with the much-anticipated “DC’s “Legends of Tomorrow” slotted for Thursdays starting in January while long-running Thursday series “The Vampire Diaries” moves to Friday.

“Legends of Tomorrow,” based on the characters from DC Comics, will bow on Jan. 21 at 8. The series comes from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg, Phil Klemmer, Chris Fedak and Sarah Schechter.

Berlanti is also behind the network’s “The Flash” and “Arrow” as well as CBS newcomer “Supergirl.” One of his DC superhero series will now lead off four consecutive weeknights.

“Legends” will be followed on Thursdays by the third season of post-apocalyptic drama “The 100” at 9. It also bows on Jan. 21.
