Matthew Goode is in talks for the male lead in Fox Searchlight’s “Stoker,” which marks the domestic directing debut for South Korean helmer Chan-wook Park.
Mia Wasikowska and Nicole Kidman are already lined up to star. Story follows a teenage girl who, while mourning the death of her father, must deal with the unexpected appearance of a mysterious uncle (Goode).

Tony and Ridley Scott are producing through their Scott Free banner along with Michael Costigan. “Prison Break” star Wentworth Miller penned the script under the pseudonym Ted Foulke.

The project has been a top priority for Fox Searchlight, given the rising profile of Park, who steered international hits “Oldboy” and “Thirst.”

Goode’s part has been a hot item among many leading men in Hollywood: Colin Firth and James Franco were both at one point considered front-runners; when they moved on, thesps such as Michael Fassbender and Joel Edgerton had also shown interest.

Best known for his role as Ozymandias in Warner Bros.’ “Watchmen,” Goode can be seen next in “Burning Man,” set to bow this fall.
