28 November 2008   Comments Off on ‘Prison Break’ Adds Two More Episodes, Likely to End at Season 4

Earlier this month, there have been reports that the cast members of Prison Break have been notified by FOX that filming schedule might be extended to accommodate shooting of two additional episodes after production ends on the series’ midseason finale. According to The Hollywood Reporter, those two installments could be a resolution not just for the season, but for good.

FOX hasn’t committed to air the additional episodes, though discussions with the studio are underway. So at this point, these are all just speculations. The trade paper isn’t also certain that the two extra hours would be a series conclusion. That means that the two hours, should they exist at all, might be a DVD bonus, or a two-hour tele-film aired next spring or fall.

Why would Prison Break possibly end its run at season 4? The action thriller, which kicked off its fourth season on September 1, has struggled in the ratings this fall. In fact, the show has dropped in the numbers every season since its first. Last year, the show averaged a disappointing 8.2 million viewers and further plunged to an average of 6.4 million viewers through its first eight airing of the current season. Moreover, the remaining six episode of its original 22-episode order were not on the network’s recently released midseason schedule.

Meanwhile, cast members Michael Rapaport, who plays Homeland Security Agent Donald Self, gives his take on the extended season without giving away too much.

“I heard they’re doing 24, instead of 22,” Rapaport told Moviehole.net.

When asked what the extended season means to the show, Rapaport remained tight-lipped.

“I don’t know how it’s going to play itself out, but I’m sure they’re going to have something fun lined up,” he said.

Catch the remaining episodes of Prison Break every Monday at 9pm on FOX.
