INDIEWIRE – Wentworth Miller’s script ‘The Disappointments Room’ finds a home with Voltage Pictures & Killer Films

If you had told us back in 2005 that the star of ‘Prison Break’ was going to become one of the promising screenwrting talents in Hollywood, we would have said you were crazy. But that’s just happened to Wentworth Miller. Under the pen name Ted Foulke (which he seems to have now abandoned), the actor wrote ‘Stoker’ which quickly landed on the Black List, and then assembled a jaw dropping brace of talent with Park Chan-wook directing, and Nicole Kidman, Mia Wasikowska, Alden Ehrenreich, Jacki Weaver and more starring. It’s one of the most anticipated movies of the year. And now, he’s got something else brewing.

Voltage Pictures and Killer Films have picked up his latest script, ‘The Disappointments Room’, and it’s another interesting thriller from Miller. The story centers on a woman who moves into a mysterious old house in the country with her husband and young son, only to discover their new home comes with a dark past. Yes, it seems like another old school style concept from Miller, but an intriguing one nonetheless.

Right now the project is out to directors, and give the heat ‘Stoker’ brought, it should be attracting some serious attention. As for Wentworth Miller the actor, he’ll next be seen in the thriller ‘Loft’.

TVLINE – ‘House’ exclusive: Wentworth Miller checks in!

‘Prison Break’s Wentworth Miller has booked a guest stint on ‘House’, but the iconic TV convict will (sadly) not be rubbing elbows with Hugh Laurie’s titular doc behind bars.

‘House’ creator David Shore tells TVLine exclusively that Wentworth will appear as a patient of the week in an episode that takes place after Dr. Crankypants gets sprung from jail.

“He plays a real altruist”, says Shore. “And there’s some question as to whether that’s his symptom or not”.

Save for a 2009 guest stint on ‘Law & Order: SVU’, Miller has kept a relatively low TV profile since wrapping up his Prison stint more than two years ago. His ‘House’ episode is slated to air in late October.

House kicks off its eighth and possibly final season on Monday, Oct. 3.

COMINGSOON – ‘Stoker’ begins principal photography

Fox Searchlight Pictures announced today that psychological thriller ‘Stoker’ has started filming. The cast includes Mia Wasikowska, Matthew Goode, Nicole Kidman, Dermot Mulroney and Jacki Weaver:

Scott Free Productions, Fox Searchlight Pictures and Indian Paintbrush announced today that principal photography for the psychological thriller ‘Stoker’ has begun in Nashville, Tennessee. The film stars Mia Wasikowska, Matthew Goode and Oscar winner Nicole Kidman with Dermot Mulroney and Oscar nominee Jacki Weaver.

In his first English language film, celebrated Korean director Park Chan-wook (‘Oldboy’, ‘Thirst’) will direct from an original screenplay by the former ‘Prison Break’ star Wentworth Miller, who wrote his inaugural script under the pseudonym Ted Foulke. ‘Stoker’ is being produced by Scott Free Productions Tony Scott, Ridley Scott and Michael Costigan with Steven Rales and Mark Roybal of Indian Paintbrush serving as executive producers. Indian Paintbrush is co-financing the film with Fox Searchlight Pictures who will be releasing the film worldwide.

After India’s (Wasikowska’s) father dies in an auto accident, her Uncle Charlie (Goode), who she never knew existed, comes to live with her and her emotionally unstable mother (Kidman). Soon after his arrival, she comes to suspect this mysterious, charming man has ulterior motives, but instead of feeling outrage or horror, this friendless girl becomes increasingly infatuated with him.

Claudia Lewis, President of Production, David Greenbaum, Senior Vice President of Production and DanTram Nguyen, Director of Production are overseeing the project.

Director Park has emerged as one of the most significant talents in world cinema in recent years. He attributes Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘Vertigo’, which he first saw while at university, as the film that changed his life and the seed which began his creative exploration of the darker elements of human experience.

His filmmaking has garnered recognition in his homeland as well as from a number of leading international film festivals. Most recently his short film ‘Paranmanjang’, shot entirely with Apple’s iPhone, won the Golden Bear (Short Film) at the 2011 Berlin Film Festival. In 2009 his vampire thriller ‘Thirst’ won the Grand Jury Prize at Cannes. ‘Symphathy For Lady Vengeance’ was awarded the Cinema Avvenire and Il Leoncino d’oro awards in competition at the 2005 Venice Film Festival. This was preceded by ‘Old Boy’, which won the Grand Prix at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival.

VARIETY – Matthew Goode in talks for ‘Stoker’ lead

Fox Searchlight pic is ‘Oldboy’ director’s first English-language film.

EXCLUSIVE: Matthew Goode is in talks for the male lead in Fox Searchlight’s ‘Stoker’, which marks the domestic directing debut for South Korean helmer Chan-wook Park.
Mia Wasikowska and Nicole Kidman are already lined up to star. Story follows a teenage girl who, while mourning the death of her father, must deal with the unexpected appearance of a mysterious uncle (Goode).

Tony and Ridley Scott are producing through their Scott Free banner along with Michael Costigan. ‘Prison Break’ star Wentworth Miller penned the script under the pseudonym Ted Foulke.

The project has been a top priority for Fox Searchlight, given the rising profile of Park, who steered international hits ‘Oldboy’ and ‘Thirst’.

Goode’s part has been a hot item among many leading men in Hollywood: Colin Firth and James Franco were both at one point considered front-runners; when they moved on, thesps such as Michael Fassbender and Joel Edgerton had also shown interest.

Best known for his role as Ozymandias in Warner Bros’ ‘Watchmen’, Goode can be seen next in ‘Burning Man’, set to bow this fall.

He is repped by CAA and Dalzell & Beresford. Park is repped by WME.

Wentworth on ‘Loft’

According to NEW YORK TIMES, Wentworth will be playing Luke in ‘Loft’. The shooting should start in the spring in New Orleans.

HOLLYWOODREPORTER – Colin Firth eyeing role in Park Chan-wook’s ‘Stoker’

UPDATED: A source says the Oscar-winning actor is “optimistic” about taking a role opposite Nicole Kidman and Mia Wasikowska.

SEOUL – British actor Colin Firth is finalizing a deal to star in South Korean helmer Park Chan-Wook’s new mystery drama ‘Stoker’.

Moho Film, Park’s film company, told The Hollywood Reporter on Tuesday that further details will be released in the next two or three weeks.

“There were a few errors in media reports about the film’s genre and Firth’s role”, said a producer at Moho who wishes to remain anonymous. “All we can say for now is that Firth is optimistic about taking the role in Park’s film. But unlike some media reports, it is untrue that ‘Stoker’ is a vampire film”.

The film, Park’s ambitious Hollywood debut and his first English-language film, delves into the life of a girl who rejoins her uncle after the death of her father. Firth, who won the Academy Award for best actor in The King’s Speech, appears set for the uncle’s role.

Written by ‘Prison Break’ star Wentworth Miller, ‘Stoker’ was rumored to be a vampire film – the title thought to be a reference to ‘Dracula’ author Bram Stoker – starring Nicole Kidman and Mia Wasikowska (‘The Kids Are All Right’).

Park and his brother Park Chan-kyong recently won the Golden Bear for best short film at the 61st Berlin International Film Festival in their latest collaboration Night Fishing, shot entirely on an iPhone.

In 2004, the director also won the Cannes’ Grand Prix with his highly controversial ‘OldBoy’.

VARIETY – Wentworth Miller to star in ‘Analog’

Wentworth Miller, the breakout star of Fox’s ‘Prison Break’, is attached to topline the indie dramedy ‘Analog’.
Mike Million (‘Tenure’) will direct from his own screenplay, which appeared on the Black List in 2005. Story follows an introverted genius who tries to find a love connection in an increasingly digital world.

Brendan McDonald is producing the $3 million pic, which may shoot this summer in Michigan. In addition to Luke Wilson comedy ‘Tenure’, he previously produced Irish indie ‘The Runway’. Million recently completed a rewrite of Paul Haggis’ script for ‘Honeymoon With Harry’.

Miller is a budding scribe himself, having written ‘Stoker’ for Fox Searchlight under the pseudonym Ted Foulke. He most recently co-starred opposite Milla Jovovich and Ali Larter in Paul W.S. Anderson’s ‘Resident Evil: Afterlife’.

Miller is repped by ICM; WME and McDonald Entertainment rep Million.
